Xojo 2019 Release 1 Is Now Available; Improves Layout Editor Performance

AUSTIN, TX, USA (April 9, 2019) — Xojo, Inc., the company that has enabled over 375,000 developers to build native cross-platform applications, today announced the availability of Xojo 2019 Release 1. Xojo is a rapid application development tool for making apps for the desktop (macOS, Windows and Linux), web, iOS, and Raspberry Pi. With over 200 improvements, this release adds some exciting updates, including improved Layout Editor Performance. In addition, Xojo is now offering licenses for building desktop and console Pi-native apps free.

Xojo is the best environment for professional developers, citizen developers and hobbyists alike. Xojo applications compile to machine code for greater performance and security. Xojo uses native controls, so apps look and feel right on each platform. Since one set of source code can be used to support multiple platforms, development is significantly faster than traditional tools. Xojo comes with a drag and drop user interface builder and the Xojo programming language is simple and straight-forward.

"We’ve heard from a lot of users with complex layouts that drag and drop in the layout editor was slow," commented Geoff Perlman, Xojo Founder and CEO. "The Layout Editor affects nearly every Xojo user, so we spent time optimizing the editor further and now it’s extremely fast.”

"I have noticed a ton of performance improvements with the layout editor in this release," commented Tim Parnell, a developer using Xojo. "The difference for editing web projects on a HiDPI display is night and day."

Xojo 2019 Release 1 includes:

  • Significant improvements to performance of Layout Editor, especially with web projects
  • The free Xojo Pi license now lets you build for Console and Desktop
